A note on the last page says that it was gifted to J.H. McNeil on New Year's Eve, 1939, from JMK.

Author Neil MacLeod (1843-1913) moved from his native Skye to Glasgow to join his brother in the tea business. He was active in the Gaelic revival and was one of the most popular songwriters and poets of the day. His work was published in Clarsach an Doire first in 1883 and released in three other editions, the last being in 1975.
