Bay News

Alex Morrison and Ted Slaney: "The Bay News, the newspaper of the Cape Breton Highlanders, began weekly publication with its first edition hitting the streets on 25 August (1945). It was intended to be a self-supporting venture but the staff was assured that any losses would be covered. Its last edition was on 24 November (1945)."

The men are standing in front of a building with a sign that says "Sixty-Two Club" which was showing the 1944 film "Together Again." 62 was also the unit number for the Cape Breton Highlanders.

Item is a photograph of Cape Breton Highlander Charles R. "Sharkey" MacDonald standing in a boxing stance. Charles was known as "Sharkey" to his comrades and was known to be a boxer. Sharkey had also won a divisional lightweight boxing championship while the unit was in Holland.
