Series consists of 11 books of fictional poetry, interviews, biographies, case studies, and history that explore race and the Black experience in Nova Scotia, Canada, and the United States. Viola Desmond is featured in Viola Desmond's Canada by Graham Reynolds, which includes a chapter written by Wanda Robson.

Cash Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of sixteen cash books that were created by Charles Robin-Collas and Co. (later Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd.). The cash books were used by the company to maintain a record of cash sales and provide daily summaries of profits and the inventory that was sold. These books feature varied information, with some containing details of each customer, the goods they purchased, and the amount of money spent, while others feature no customer names. The books are not indexed, but the information within them is arranged chronologically.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence between Angus and Ignatius and James Nolan, as well as Margaret MacDonald, Cassie Fortune and others. One file (A.7) consists of two letters from Folklorist Helen Creighton asking Angus MacDonald about Rhoddy McLeod's ghost.

Daniel McKay

Series consists of documents related the life of Daniel McKay. Mr. McKay struck gold in the Yukon during the gold rush era and eventually moved to Sydney. He built and operated the Klondyke Hotel on 36 Walker (formerly Reserve St.) Street in Sydney.

The series consists of two sub-series. The first reflects his business at the Klondyke Hotel including a ledger and building receipts. The second includes custom documents and receipts from his travel to the Yukon and a map of the Bluenose gold mine.

Day Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of 142 day books that were created by Philip Robin and Co. (later Charles Robin and Co., then Charles Robin-Collas and Co, then Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd.) in their Cape Breton offices. The books feature listings of transactions between the company and its clients and, less frequently, other businesses. Transaction listings most commonly include the name of the individual who made a purchase, a list of the items that they purchased and their cost, and the individual's company account number. In some cases, the account number has been omitted.

Day books were frequently used by bookkeepers during this time period to record all company transactions. At the end of each day, the information that was collected in the day book would then be recorded in the appropriate ledgers.

Dominion Coal and Steel Company Commissioned Photographs

Series consists of images related to the operations and associated events of the Dominion Coal and Steel Company (DOSCO). The images taken are company-directed and feature promotional imagery of underground mining, technical advances such as the DOSCO Continuous Miner which automated the process of longwall mining, health and safety advocacy by the company and maintenance projects. Aerials of Seaboard Powerplant and various aspects of underground communication and transportation (mine carts/rakes) are included. Railway transport that is no longer in operation, such as the Sydney & Louisbourg Railway is depicted. Recreational activities such as company bowling leagues and staff gatherings are also included in this series.

Dominion Financial Records

Series is a large collection of financial records from the town of Dominion. This includes tax, rate, and assessment rolls, cashbooks, payrolls, tax ledgers, and expenditures.

Collection contains: Dominion school board minutes 1919-38, school board expenses 1954-56, teachers pay roll 1910-52, and school board minutes 1915-27.

Dominion Town Council

Collection contains both microfilm and ledgers dating from 1906 to 1990 of Dominion Town Council Minutes.

Employee Records

Series consists of a 1923 list of Western Union employees at the North Sydney branch as well as a series of files related to past Western Union employees who donated materials to the North Sydney Historical Society. Individuals represented are George Baggett, Isabel Cameron, and M.J. Walsh. A file containing a menu and photograph from the 1907 annual Christmas party is also included.

Financial Records

Items are a collection of various financial documents from the Town of Glace Bay. The records range from account books, payroll records, financial accounts and statements, daybooks, and business ledgers.

Fish Record Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of ten fish record books that were created by Philip Robin and Co. (later Charles Robin and Co., then Charles Robin-Collas and Co., then Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd.). Fish record books were used by the company to maintain a record of the amount of fish being exported, while also providing information about the shipping date and the vessel that was used to transport the goods. In addition, the books contain daily summaries of the amount of fish received from fishermen.

Glace Bay Town Council

Collection contains fourteen books of the Glace Bay Town Council meetings between 1901 and 1964 and an annual report for 1954.

Inventory Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of six stock inventory books created by Charles Robin-Collas and Co. in their Cape Breton offices. These books were used to keep track of the stock held in company stores and, in some cases, the cost of each item. They include listings of clothing items, food, spices, building materials, hardware and tools that were provided to customers. Some books within this series are indexed.

Invoice Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of seven invoice books that were created by Charles Robin-Collas and Co. (later Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd). The books contain copies of invoices that were provided to companies and individuals that completed business with the Company, and were used as a method of maintaining a record of these transactions. The records within this book are not indexed.

Ledger Books, Robin, Jones, and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of 136 ledger books created by Philip Robin and Co. (later Charles Robin and Co., then Charles Robin-Collas and Co., then Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd.) between 1824 and 1959. The ledger book provides summaries of the credits and debits to the account of each person who frequently made purchases or sold goods to the company. The books were updated at the end of each day to include the most recent transactions and payments.

Legal Documents

Collection is several municipal documents including municipal court documents from 1927-36 and 1960, register of bills 1908, public relief accounts, and direct relief records from 1931 to 1932.

Letterbooks, Robin Jones and Whitman Ltd.

Series consists of 35 letterbooks created by Charles Robin-Collas and Co. (later Robin, Jones and Whitman Ltd.). The books contain copies of letters that were kept in order to maintain a record of business correspondence and transactions, as well as some invoices and order forms. The majority of the correspondence contained within the letterbooks is from the company's office in Cheticamp (Eastern Harbour), but some items were also penned in Arichat.

Most of these letterbooks contain no index or are only partially indexed, but letters are organized chronologically throughout. The included correspondence contains orders from suppliers, banking requests, and inter-organizational letters that accompanied reports to members of company management. In some instances, the letterbooks contain staff listings, statements of accounts, listings of goods that were purchased by clients, and inventory listings for the store in Cheticamp (Eastern Harbour).
