Manuscripts

File consists of 4 completed manuscript and 2 partial manuscripts of “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”/ “Hang the Lantern on the Gate”. “Hang the Lantern on the Gate” was the original title of Dr. MacMillan’s novel before it was changed to “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”.

C. Monty MacMillan Ferry Boat

File consists of a letter written in 1992 from M.L.A. Roland J. Thornhill to Ken Streatch the Minister of transportation and Communication asking that the bell and name plaque from the C. Monty MacMillan Ferry be given to the family, clippings detailing the final crossing of the C. Monty MacMillan Ferry and the opening of the Barra Strait Bridge.

Commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Italy photographs

Folio consists of photographs taken on the trip to Italy for the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Italy that prominently feature Charles "Sharkey" MacDonald and Ralph Davies, veterans of the Cape Breton Highlanders. Photos consist of those taken in Ottawa before departure, various places in Italy that the delegation traveled to including various war cemeteries where Cape Breton Highlanders are buried and photos of Highlanders who gave their lives during the war.

Ralph Davies scrapbook

File consists of a scrapbook compiled by Cape Breton Highlanders veteran Ralph Davies who was one of two Cape Breton Highlanders veterans who traveled to Italy in 1975 as part of an official Canadian pilgrimage to Italy to mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Italy. The scrapbook contains Davies' name tag, an itinerary, flight receipts, newspaper clippings, Davies' international certificates of vaccination, a list of names of special guests, postcards, copies of the orders of ceremonies for different war cemeteries, booklets, and photographs.

Ralph Davies correspondence and papers

File consists of correspondence and papers of Cape Breton Highlanders veteran Ralph Davies who was one of two Cape Breton Highlanders veterans who traveled to Italy in 1975 as part of an official Canadian pilgrimage to Italy to mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Italy.

Italian welcome signs

File consists of two signs from the Municipality of Rimini that read "Rimini welcomes the representatives of the Canadian Delegation" from the 1975 celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Italy.

File contains a small leather pouch inscribed with "Glace Bay, Nova Scotia" containing six small ticket stubs from different locations in Europe, three red Cape Breton Highlanders shoulder patches, one embroidered Cape Breton Highlanders patch, one Royal Canadian Legion patch, and a collection of nine patches from locations in Europe such as London, Wales, Great Britain, and Chester among others.

File consists of the attestation paper for Alexander Dutka, a letter to the commanding officer of the Nova Scotia Highland Brigade regarding furnishing an office for processing of attestation and declaration papers, a two-page list of officers and men who were handed in to Camp Aldershot, N.S., a list of officers, non-commissioned officers, and men who have not had their attestation and declaration papers received at Militia Headquarters, and a list of officers and men who have had attestation and declaration papers handed in to camp headquarters at Aldershot.

Wanda Robson's UCCB (CBU) Material
