Lewis Otis MacLeod was born in South Bar in October 1901. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, and although he was 40 years old at the time he was experienced in his trade of mechanics. As a result he was immediately shipped overseas and was gone from home for almost four years. When he returned from serving overseas, he built his own garage in South Bar which he operated until taking over the Rural Mail delivery in the late 1950
