Item is a photograph of a road being laid in Sydney Mines.

There is an article glued to back of photograph that reads: Sydney Mines Street Construction - 1902. 8-horsepower and plenty of manpower were all that was needed in street construction back in the pre-bulldozer days of 1902 when this photo was taken. Passed along to the Highlander by Sydney Mines sports writer Jack MacNeil, it shows a work crew breaking ground for what is now Beech Street in the Northside town. Among those present were Nick Hall, owner of the horses, now deceased, Joe MacInnis, Eddy Boutilier, Jacob Vickers, Henry MacDonald, Jack Matheson and Jack Broderick, all of whom are deceased, and Ambrose MacNeil, Joe Young and William Hall. Originally owned by Alex Gordon of Sydney Mines, the photo is now the property of the Businessmen's Club of Sydney Mines.

Item is a photograph of Cassie (Catherine), Annie and Sadie MacIsaac. The three women were co-owners of the Bonnie View Hotel in Whitney Pier. Their sister Margaret (MacIsaac) Gillis and her husband Rod Gillis established the boarding house in 1910. Margaret died shortly after the birth of her fifth child in 1913, and following her death, her husband and children left for Western Canada, while her sisters assumed ownership of the hotel.
