Donation consists of membership records, financial records and incorporation certificate for the Electrical Employees Credit Union.
Fonds consists primarily of original artwork for production and publication of the Old Trout Funnies comic book series and Cape Breton Liberation Army (CBLA) calendars. The donor created the first issue of the Old Trout Funnies in 1975. The concept, drawing and production of the comic book originated as a course project while a commercial design student at Holland College in Charlottetown PEI. The first issue launched in February of 1976 with two additional issues published in 1977 and 1978.
Following the release of the third and final issue in the Old Trout Funnies series, MacKinnon began work on the Cape Breton Liberation Army calendars. He produced an annual twelve-month calendar between 1979 and 2000. Both the comics and calendars provide a satirical view of Cape Breton culture and its relationship to mainland Nova Scotia. Prominent social, political, and cultural events are referenced with many of MacKinnons friends and local celebrities featured as recurring characters.
The fonds has been organized into two series. The first series (MG 21.2 A) consists of fifteen item level descriptions for each CBLA calendar and one file of miscellaneous textual materials. Each calendar consists of one individual sheet. The second series (MG 21.2 B) contains two file level descriptions. The first file includes item level descriptions for each of the three issues of the Old Trout Funnies. The second file describes the extent and scope of original drawings and plates for production of the Old Trout Funnies.
