Next to Amy, with the dark straw hat, is her sister Olive. The man with the beard on the left hand side half way up the haystack is Captain Joseph Levi Phillips, who with his partner, Joe Nicol, ran the ferry service on the Mira River. The man with the beard second from the right on top of the haystack is Captain Joe Nicol.

Soldiers participating in the parade are noted to be carrying a Maj. Matheson, visible on the shoulders of one of the men in the bottom right corner of the photograph. A handwritten note on the photo credits it to one "F.G. Goodenough". The ship from which the soldiers are disembarking is partially visible in the background.
