Their sister Margaret (MacIsaac) Gillis and her husband Rod Gillis established the boarding house in 1910. Margaret died shortly after the birth of her fifth child in 1913, and following her death, her husband and children left for Western Canada, while her sisters assumed ownership of the hotel.
