There is a change in language between English and Canadian Gaelic from individuals on the recordings. The fiddle playing is Scottish-Canadian in style, while some are Scottish fiddle music. The recordings include small conversations between reels and songs, descriptions and origins of the music’s is also discussed. The photographs are of the Beaton family house and farm, highlighting rural life in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The photos also show the boarder Broad Cove community and Inverness county.

The Community Hotel Company Limited was organized in
1926 by members of the Sydney Community in order to build
what was eventually the Isle Royale Hotel. Construction began in
1927 and the hotel opened in 1928. The first president was
James McConnell, Mayor of Sydney and the contractor was M.R.
Chappell. Hotel was demolished in 1985. The papers include:

This map is based on the voyages of Giovanni da Verrazano in 1524 and Jacques Cartier in 1534. It is the first printed map devoted to New England and New France, showing the eastern seaboard from New York Bay to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Cape Breton and Newfoundland are shown as several islands and the St. Lawrence River is depicted running west from the Gulf. A long, thin band is thought to be an early representation of the Gulf Stream and marks the rich fishing banks.
