The collection consists of 4 complete manuscripts and 2 partial manuscripts of “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”/ “Hang the Lantern on the Gate” (which was the original title), personal correspondence and letters of congratulations, reviews of “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor” as well as a rough draft of an opening scene for a play based on “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”. This collection consists of photographs, an audio cassette tape (The Bush & The Salon), a CD (C.L. MacMillan- Oral Histories), clipping with information about the “C. Monty MacMillan” ferry, clippings of Dr. MacMillan’s obituary as well as condolence letters sent to the family, tributes that were given after the doctor's death, political speeches given by Dr. MacMillan as well as other speeches he has given and 2 scrapbooks containing clippings dealing with his time as MLA and letters of congratulations on receiving the Order of Canada.

Series also consists of a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings concerning his political career.

Item consists of a speech given by Dr. MacMillan at the third annual meeting of organized festival of song and speech. It is a three-day long festival in Baddeck where 16 school sections of the county compete. Dr. MacMillan mentions how the festival is sponsored by Home & School and how the very first Home & School Association in all of Canada was organized in Baddeck. He gives special credit to Mrs. Freda Jones, the circuit music teacher who organized the festival as well as Mr. Jame MacKinnon, a school inspector who has helped to develop said festival and Mr. Donald Wetmore and Mrs. J.W. Walshman, both from the department of education who were to act as judges.

Item consists of a partial speech given by Dr. MacMillan in 1954 or 1955. The only part of the speech available is the last page where he finishes speaking about the highway needs in Victoria County. He also mentions the new Graham Bell museum in Baddeck and how it has benefited the tourism industry in Nova Scotia but more specifically in Baddeck and Victoria County.

Series also consists of a column called MacMillan’s Memories, a history of Baddeck Group Alcoholics Anonymous which he is mentioned in, a story about the history of Isaac’s Harbor, a loan statement and 29 photographs including weddings photos, family photos, photos of Dr. MacMillan by himself and with others, photos of a house, the C. Monty MacMillan ferry, and Dr. MacMillan in a horse drawn sleigh.
