Item is a photograph of the original Bras d'Or House in Baddeck. The original house was destroyed by a fire in 1894 then rebuilt in 1896. The property was owned and operated by Alex Anderson, then by Jack MacKenzie and later by Alton Langille. Finally the building was made in apartments.

Currently owned by the Old Sydney Society and known as the Cape Breton Centre for Heritage and Science, the building was recognized as a heritage building in 1983 and continues to host exhibits that highlight Sydney's history.
