Item consists of a speech given by Dr. MacMillan addressing the speech from the throne and joining the debate. He talks about the coronation of the Queen on June 2nd, the decline in tuberculosis, the minister of public health, the success of the department of education, the fishing industry, the tourism industry and rural electrification.

The collection consists of 4 complete manuscripts and 2 partial manuscripts of “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”/ “Hang the Lantern on the Gate” (which was the original title), personal correspondence and letters of congratulations, reviews of “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor” as well as a rough draft of an opening scene for a play based on “Memoirs of a Cape Breton Doctor”. This collection consists of photographs, an audio cassette tape (The Bush & The Salon), a CD (C.L. MacMillan- Oral Histories), clipping with information about the “C. Monty MacMillan” ferry, clippings of Dr. MacMillan’s obituary as well as condolence letters sent to the family, tributes that were given after the doctor's death, political speeches given by Dr. MacMillan as well as other speeches he has given and 2 scrapbooks containing clippings dealing with his time as MLA and letters of congratulations on receiving the Order of Canada.

Item consists of Dr. MacMillan giving the opening speech at a banquet in Victoria County. He welcomed the Minister of Agriculture as well as visitors from other parts if the province. In his speech, he mentions the importance of agriculture and farmers.

Series also consists of a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings concerning his political career.
