The building at the end of the street was the Holy Angels Convent; the building on the corner of Charlotte and Wentworth Street was the Nova Hotel; the building beyond that was destroyed by a fire in 1901.

Fonds represents over seven decades of photography by the owners and staff of Abbass Studios Ltd.. The studio operated a portrait studio, as well as accepted contracts from newspapers and covered local events. The photographs in the fonds reflect the diverse economic, political and cultural heritage of Cape Breton.

The negatives are organized into seven series: A,B,C,D,N, DOSCO, and Portraiture (P). The N series includes the earliest images including the nitrate film negatives. The A,B,C, and D series continue chronologically until 2001 with the Portraiture ending in 2004. The DOSCO series includes photographs taken of the Dominion Steel and Coal Company during the 1950s.

Fonds consists of administrative, personal, and miscellaneous papers from Morrison's General Store Ltd. in St. Peter's, Richmond County, Nova Scotia. The majority of the records are administrative and include operational purchase ledgers, payroll and inventory books. The materials also reflect store owner Alex A. Morrison's political activities such as voters' lists, election records and correspondence related to local politicians. Papers also include records related to the Department of Indian Affairs; it is possible that either Morrison's General Store or the D.Y. Stewart & Sons store served as a depot for agents who worked for Indian Affairs. A series of correspondence from A.J. Boyd as well as other Indian Agents in Cape Breton and mainland Nova Scotia are included in the records
