General note
Fr. Michael Gilis (1883-1970) was a native of Soldier's Cove. He was ordained in 1907 and served as military chaplain in both World Wars. He served as pasor of Boisdale and St. Anthony's in Glace Bay later returning to Antigonish to serve as a member of staff at the Coady Institute. Fr. Gillis was instrumental in the development of the St. F.X Extension Department and served as secretary with the Scottish Catholic Society of Canada for the first seven years of its existence. He is buried in Boisdale, where he had served his longest post.
