Biographical history
Lewis Parker of Toronto taught at Humber College. He is past President of the Canadian Society of Book Illustrators. Lastly, he was commissioned by Parks Canada to do murals for the Fortress of Louisbourg, Nova Scotia and Fort Beausejour, New Brunswick.
Custodial history
Letters were sent to Dr. D.F. Campbell, while he was President of UCCB. Dr. Campbell donated the papers to the Institute.
Scope and content
Fonds consist of letters and sketches regarding the paintings of twelve murals portraying the history of Cape Breton by Mr.Parker. In 1982, Cape Breton University commissioned Parker for the murals and he had great help with their completion by his partner, New Waterford Native, Terry MacDonald. The work is a series of acrylic on Belgian linen and each measure 7 feet by 4 feet and were hanging in the Great Hall at CBU by 1987.
