Transcription for track 4b2: Canada, thìr an àigh / Canada, the land of joy
Informant; Alec "Iain Ruaidh" MacLeod
Composer: Catherine MacLeod, North Framboise, CB
This song praises the virtues of Canada as a land of freedom, of beauty and of plenty. Particular praise is lauded on the Canadian soldiers who fought in the first World War.
Sèist: Canada, thìr an aigh,
Tìr nan craobh, na laoch ‘s a’ ghràn,
Chan eil mais’ air aghaidh nàdur,
Nach eil pàirt dhe d’ chòir ann.
Canada, thìr an aigh
Chan aithne dhomh àit’ is àille,
Gheibhear anns na beanntan àrda,
Aimhnichean is lochan sàmhach,
‘S glinn tha fàsmhor còmhnard.
‘S iomadh buaidh a tha ri inns’ ort,
Thig an t-siùcar às a’ chraoibh ann,
‘S fhuair sinn suaicheantas ar tìr,
An duilleag riomhach bhòidheach.
Canada a thog na laoich,
Nach cuir cruadalachd ri’n taobh,
‘S iad nach d’fhalaich ann an cùil,
Nuair thàinig glaodh Rìgh Sheòrais.
Dh’fhàg an tuathanach an crann,
Leig an clèireach sìos a pheann,
‘S dh’fhalbh iad bhuainn dhan airm san Fhraing,
‘Se ‘n call nach do thill na sheòl dhiubh.
Nuair a ràinig na seòid ud thall,
Cuid dhiubh an eideadh tìr nam beann,
Thuirt an Kaiser mòr le greann,
“Tha ‘n t-àm bhith dol dhan Olaind”.
Anns gach àite air an t-saoghal,
‘S a bheil Bratach Breatainn air a sgaoileadh,
Bidh na Canadians ri faotainn,
Gabhail taobh na còigrich.
Nach e ‘n Gearmailteach bha faoin,
‘N dùil gun ceannsaicheadh e ‘n saoghal,
‘S tìr nan craobh is tìr na fraoich,
Fo bhratach Rìgheil Sheòrais.

Transcription for Track 4b3 : An Tèid Thu Leam A Mhàiri
Iain Munro
An tèid thu leam a’ Mhàiri?
Informant: Kenneth Morrison
A popular love song presented as a conversation wherein “the Gael” persuades his sweetheart to come with him to live in the Highlands.
Seisd: An tèid thu leam a Mhàiri,
'S am falbh thu leam air sàile,
An tèid thu leam air bhàrr nan tonn,
Gu tìr nan gleann 's nan àrd bheann.
Le d' chumadh dhealbhach, àillidh,
Mar dhealradh reult na fàire;
'Se d' nàdur ciùin do bhàigh 's do mhùirn,
A leag mo rùn 's mo ghràdh ort.
Ise:
Cha tèid mi leat a Ghàidheil,
Mo chàirdean gaoil chan fhàg mi,
Cha tèid mi null air bhàrr nan tonn,
'S chan fhàg mi clann mo mhàthar.
Cha tèid mi leat a Ghàidheil,
Mo dhùthaich a chaoidh chan fhàg mi;
Gur bochd am fonn, 's tha 'n t-aran gann,
An tìr nan gleann 's nan àrd-bheann.
Cha tèid mi leat a Ghàidheil,
Chan eil do thaigh ach tàireal,
Bhithinn fo sprochd, nan robh mi bochd,
An tìr nan cnoc 's nan àrd-bheann.
Esan.
Tha taigh agam cho àillidh
Ris 'n taigh 's an d'fhuair thu d’àrach,
Bidh cuan is fonn riut fìal gach àm
An tìr nan gleann 's nan àrd-bheann.
Mur eil mòr-chruithneachd fàs ann
An tìr nan gleann 's nan àrd-bheann,
Tha bàrr nas leòir is fàs an fheòir,
An tìr nan lòn 's nan àiridh.
Tha agam sprèidh le 'n àiltean,
'S mo mheana'-chrodh air na h-àirdean
'S bidh laoigh is uain air raon is cluain,
'S gur taitneach fuaim am bàirich.
'S mur eil mo long air sàile
Gu saoibhreas dheanamh 'n àird dhomh
Thèid bàt' is lion gach là gu rian
'S bidh agad iasg gu d’àilgheas.
Bith agad aodach blàth-glan,
Is breacan mìn mu d' bhràighe;
Cha tèid thu mach gun ghille 's each,
'S bidh a h-uile neach riut càirdeil,
Ise:
Stad a’ nis a Ghàidheil,
Mo chìdh', ‘s mo rùn 's mo làmh dhuit,
Gun tèid mi null, air bhàrr nan tonn
Gu tìr nan gleann ‘s nan àrd-bheann
