      General note

Transcription for track 8b: 'Si Mo Leannan An Tè Ùr,
      Informant: Donald John MacDermaid
      Traditional
A love song praising a woman, her virtues and her physical beauty filled with imagery drawn from the vast store of Gaelic poetic conventions. “Your cheeks are like the rose; The most beautiful mouth to ever draw breath”

Sèist: 'S i mo leannan an tè ùr,
'S guirme sùil 's is caoile mala,
Tè gu math dhan tig an gùn,
      Dh'fhàg i m'inntinn tùrsach.

'S ged nach 'eil mi pailt' de stòr,
Dheanainn seòl, a ghaoil, air d' aran,
      Mharbhainn breac air linne lòin,
      'S damh na cròic 's a' bùireadh.

      Tha mo chridhe tùrsach, tròm,
M'inntinn cha tog fonn air ealain,
      Tha lionn-dubh orm fo thuinn,
      Mo nighean donn an t-sùgraidh,

Tha do chneas mar shneachd air lòn,
      Muineal rò-gheal mar an canach,
Cas is deise 'thèid am bròig,
      Nach dean feòirnein lùbadh.

Tha do ghruaidhean mar an ròs,
      Beul is bòidhche shèideas anail,
Mala chaol mar it’ an eòin,
      Ruisg is bòidhch’ a dhùineas.

Ged a bhithinn feadh nam beann,
Fad na h-oidhcheadh gun tigh'nn dhachaigh,
'S i mo choire fhèin bhiodh ann,
'S mi gun bhann, gun chùmhnant.

Saoilidh mi n' uair thig an oidhch',
Gum bu chaoimhneas dhomh an cadal,
Ach nuair dhùisgeas mi o m' shuain,
      Glacaidh buaireas ùr mi.

      Ged a bhithinnsa cho òg,
'S gum b'e màireach tùs mo latha,
'S mi nach trèigeadh gaol na h-òigh,
      Air son diomb luchd-diùrrais.

Am bruadar chunna mis a’ raoir,
Mi bhi sìnnt' air taobh mo leannan, ‘Fàilleadh air a tighinn nam chuimhn', Chuirinn geall an diùrrais.
