General note
The ship was on fire for five to six days before Captain Milton McKenzie of North Sydney brought it into the harbour to extinguish the fire and salvage supplies. 64 crewmen had died on the ship and McKenzie was awarded the MBE, or, Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, which was awarded for non-combative services to the empire during the war.
