Biographical history
Monsignor Hugh Peter MacPherson was a native of Cloverville, Antigonish County. He became president of St. Francis Xavier University in 1906, a post which he held until 1932. He worked with Msgr. Tompkins in growing the University. Known as "The Old Rector", MacPherson contributed several times to the Mosgladh.

Scope and content
File contains two different speeches and their English translations. The first speech is not dated but was a welcome to John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir, Governor General of Canada on his visit to Glace Bay. Tweedmuir died in 1940. A photocopy is also included. The second speech is regarding the history of the Scottish Catholic Society of Canada and its Glace Bay Branch, Saint Margaret. It is dated 1942.
